King Vikramdeva (pronounced: VIK-rum-DAYV) was the former king of Mahishmati, father of Amarendra Baahubali, and brother of Bijjaladeva.
Biography[]
Vikramadeva actual name is Mahadeva, and he was the younger son of Maharaja Somadeva and Maharani Hemavati. He is the younger brother of Bjjaladeva.
Unlike his brother, Mahadeva was a poet and idealistic individual who cared and respected the people of Mahishmathi and never used them to his advantage. He is an emotional individual who was never a good warrior. His honesty and hospitality towards everyone angered his mother Maharani Hemavati. He fell in love with Sivagami and he especially had spent a lot of time with her. However, Sivagami married her brother Bjjaladeva to pursue her goal after an assassination attempt on Mahadeva by Jeemotha had the kingdom believe he died.
Under his father's advice, he married Akhila, the daughter of Thimma and the foster sister of Sivagami. When his father Maharaja Somadeva was overthrown by the Kingdom of Kadaraimandalam with the help of Pattaraya and Bjjaladeva, Mahadeva's eyes were stitched shut as a punishment and remained that way for five years. A coup d'etat staged by Sivagami and her foster brother (who was known as Guru Dharmapala) successfully overthrew and reestablished rule in Mahishmathi though it did result in Dharmapala's death. Mahadeva's father Maharaja Somadeva, who ably ruled the kingdom for more then 40 years was assassinated by an assassin of Pattaraya named Uthanga. Mahadeva became Maharaja of Mahishmathi with the titular name Vikramadeva Mahadeva. He was an able ruler who was totally unlike his father as he was compassionate even to the thieves and slaves of Mahishmathi.
He appointed Gomati (Mahapradhana Parameswara's daughter) as the prime minister and Sivagami herself as commander-in-chief. Bjjaladeva had seemingly gone missing after the fall of Kadaraimandalam but in reality Bjjaladeva was stuck in the undergrounds of the kingdom. He conceived his child (Amarendra Baahubali), but was never given the opportunity to meet his child as chaos ensued in the kingdom. The Kalakeyas brutally attacked Mahishmathi while the volcano of Gauriparvat mountain exploded. Maharaja Vikramadeva Mahadeva died saving his brother by entering the tunnels and sealing it off with himself in it to ensure the lava doesn't flood the kingdom. His wife Akhila was poisoned by Kadaraimandalam nobles in which Sivagami saved her child by cutting her stomach. As a punishment, Bjjaladeva hand was paralysed and disabled and Sivagami took on the realms of the kingdom until his son and Mahadeva son grew up.
