The Royal Visit is the second episode of the first season of The Lost Legends and is the second overall episode. King Yaduvanshi of Rudragni and his children visit Mahishmati in order to forge an alliance against the Barbarian threat.

Synopsis[]

Mahishmati is visited by the neighboring king and his children, on Sivagami's invitation, to work out an alliance. There's a ploy afoot.

Plot[]

A child Amarendra Baahubali and Sivagami are seen walking through the Mahishmati marketplace. They stop in front of a fruit shack where Baahubali sees a little girl stealing mangos, and is signaled to be silent to which he agrees to. The girl escapes and Sivagami shows disappointment in Baahubali for not setting an example and doing nothing. She makes Baahubali work for the store owner for a few days as punishment and makes it clear that doing nothing in the face of wrongdoing makes you guilty as well.

Years later back in the present, Baahubali hikes up Kataar cliffs where atop rests a mango tree. As punishment for disobeying Pradhan Guru, he is instructed to collect mangos for Pradhan's puja. He retrieves the mangos through heavy struggle but Pradhan orders him to get more for his lunch. He also makes Bhallaladeva join him after hearing him snicker. The heirs of Mahishmati also ponder the whereabouts of Avinash, what Pradhan will do to him for not coming to training and that there is a search party for him.

Shortly after, king Yaduvanshi from the neighboring kingdom of Rudragni arrives at the gates with his children Vaarah and Yamagni. Sivagami gives them a warm welcome and Bijjaladeva applauds how mature Vaarah has grown up since they last saw them. Vaarah expresses pride in holding power and authority over his subjects and his father reminds him of the wisdom and kindness necessary to uphold the kingdom. Sivagami is also fascinated at how much Yamagni has grown and she and Baahubali show admiration for each other, which causes Vaarah slight discomfort. The Rudragni's royal servent accidentally bumps into Vaarah and spills a drink on him, causing him to loose his temper and kick him while on the ground. Yamagni stops him and tells him that's enough, and Sivagami heads to the council chambers with Yaduvanshi. As instructed, Bhalla takes Vaarah to tour the armory and Baahubali takes Yamagni on a tour through the rest of the city.

During the tour through the city, Baahubali and Yamagni get to know each other better and Yamagni talks about how in their kingdom, food is given out of kindness and mutual respect. Baahubali mentions Vaarah and Yamagni lets him know that he thinks the subjects are weak and unimportant, similar to Bhalla's idea of monarchy. Yamagni and Baahubali are called back to the palace. Bhalla shows Vaarah to the armory where weapons made of Mahishmati's signature steel are crafted. Bhalla introduces Vaarah to Kattappa and Vaarah tests one of the swords by dueling a soldier armed with it against his signature metallic whip. When the sword doesn't break, Vaarah intimidatingly states that everything eventually breaks. Kattappa is shown not to be fond of Vaarah's arrogance while Bhalla applauds it.

In the negotiation chambers, Sivagami talks about the Barbarian threat and the need to forge alliance with Rudragni. Vaarah overhears and immediately goes against it, stating that Mahishmati will have access to their kingdom's trading routes and ports and that Sivagami is simply using the Barbarians as an excuse to get rich. Yaduvanshi ponders this but Vaarah goes as far as to accuse Sivagami of orchestrating the Barbarian attacks for this purpose and Yaduvanshi puts his foot down. Yamagni and Baahubali arrive holding hands, and Vaarah also calls Baahubali out for "seducing" his sister. Yamagni apoligizes on Vaarah's behalf as he speaks his mind and is often headstrong. Vaarah apologizes as well and the Rudragni royals leave to discuss the alliance treaty. The royals of Mahishmati agree that Vaarah doesn't mean well and that he can't jeapordize the peace talks.

That night, Vaarah is practicing with his whip surrounded by guards who are suddenly shot dead with arrows. Vaarah deflects an arrow aimed at him and a uniformed and masked warrior attacks him with a sword, wounding him. He's saved by Baahubali, who chases after the warrior and breaks part of the mask before they flee. Vaarah is healed by a physician and the next day he takes out his anger on Sivagami for not finding the assassin in front of Yamagni and Baahubali who are visibly displeased. Baahubali presents the sword used by the attacker, which has Barbarian craftsmanship. Sivagami believes the Barbarians found out about the alliance and attempted to kill Vaarah to stop it. Vaarah swears to murder all the Barbarians who would dare cross him.

Later that day, Baahubali visits Yamagni in her chambers and shows her the broken mask, asking her if she's looking for it. Yamagni looks horrified and opens a case under her bed carrying the same uniform the assassin wore. She starts crying asking Baahubali how he found out. Baahubali replies that it's no longer relevant and Yamagni asks for his help.
