Pattaraya

Pattaraya (pronounced: PAAT-rai-YA) is a rich and ambitious man, but also cunning and ruthless. He brought himself up from poverty using his hard work and intelligence. He is haughty and yearn for more power in the Mahishmathi politcs. He is one of the few revoulotionaries going against the King, Somadeva.

He has a daughter from the imprisoned queen of Kadaraimandalam, Chitraveni. Together, they had a child named [[Mekhala, who was extremely beautiful.

Pattaraya main ambition was to find out how the Gaurikanta stones were produced and made into Gauridhooli. He was able to influence Prince Bjjaladeva, and kill Skandadasa, the honest deputy prime minister who was also from a low caste and a cousin of Pattaraya revealed by him. Pattaraya worked to get Kadaraimandalam independent by influencing Prince Bjjaladeva, and eventually he succeded. Mahishmathi became a vassal and he made his daughter the puppet ruler of Mahishmathi. He got his daughter Mekhala married to Bjjaladeva.

Eventually, Mahishmathi broke out of the vassalage and countered there moves. Pattaraya and Mekhala were arrested and Mahishmathi gained independence. Pattaraya and his daughter Mekhala were executed shortly after the assassination of King Somadeva.
